| In early 2006, Harvey Hix and I were asked to participate in an exhibition at the University of Wyoming Museum of Art. The exhibition and panel discussion centered on the idea of collaboration, specifically between visual artists and writers. Also included in the show were pieces by Mark Ritchie and Alyson Hagy.
To right are thumbnails of the installation and some individual elements from the piece. Harvey and I met every Saturday in my studio to discuss and work on the collaboration. Initially we each took four pieces of drawing paper and wrote or drew on them as we saw fit. We then exhanged these and worked with, and sometimes over, what the other person had done. Eventually, we began incorporating plexiglas, frosted mylar, and other drawing papers into the mix. The final result for this show was displayed on a tension-fit shelf installed in the museum between two pillars. Harvey and I view this work as fluid, changing, evolving and growing. We intend to pursue the possibility of future installations in other locations. Harvey Hix directs the MFA Creative Writing program at the University of Wyoming.
